Are you new to using propane gas to heat or fuel your home? If so, you are bound to have a few questions when it comes to keeping your tank full by using a propane gas delivery service. Even though relying on propane can be much different than relying on electricity or natural gas, there is no reason to feel intimidated. Take a look at a few of the most common questions new customers tend to have about propane gas delivery

How do you pick the best propane gas service?

Most areas have a few companies that offer propane gas delivery, which can make it a little difficult to know who to call. However, there are a few questions you can ask to help you determine which company will be best for you to work with, such as:

  • How far is the propane gas company from your address?
  • Who offers the cheapest prices or contract options to customers?
  • Does the company work with customers who have a tank the size of yours?

Everything from pricing to delivery limitations can vary drastically between providers. The easiest way to answer these questions is to simply give area service providers a call and ask.

How much propane do you need with each delivery?

This answer can depend on a few factors, including the size of your tank and your anticipated use. Most propane gas delivery services will have a set minimum in terms of how much propane they can deliver to a residential customer. For example, if you have a 500-gallon tank, the company may require you to purchase at least 250 gallons for delivery. The general recommendation is to fill the tank with each delivery. The propane does not expire or go bad if it is not used within a season or a certain amount of time. And, you can usually get better rates by buying in bulk.

Should a tank be tested for leaks before getting it filled?

Possibly. If the tank has been sitting unused for a long period, it may be worth having it tested. Most often, you can have a tank evaluated for leaks by the same company that delivers propane for an additional fee. However, some companies will include the cost of basic evaluation with the delivery. Contrary to popular myth, it is actually not all that common for propane tanks to leak because they are built to withstand the elements. However, if you have an outdated tank, having it tested may be recommended.
